ASHTANGA YOGA

Ashtanga Yoga Newcastle
First cited by the sage Vamana Rishi in the ancient and asana-rich scripture,
Yoga Korunta, the Ashtanga yoga system was passed to Sri T. Krishnamacharya
from his guru, Rama Mohan Brahmachari in the early 1900s, and subsequently in 1927 to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Krishnamacharya’s loyal student for many years.

This method of Yoga is dynamic. It brings strength and softness to the body and stillness to the mind. Ashtanga yoga synchronises the movement of the body and breath. The practice moves through a progressive series of postures that build internal heat, cleanse the physical body and clears the mind. Regular practitioners enjoy many health benefits beyond and including less stress, increased flexibility, stamina and strength. Regular practice results in a greater sense of well being.

Ashtanga yoga is a practice that is tailored to individual needs. Over time the student will be introduced to new postures as their strength and flexibility improve. Therefore in a Mysore Style class each student is practicing to their own experience. There may be beginners practicing along-side long-time devoted students who may be practicing Second or even Third Series.
There is six series in Ashtanga yoga.

Yoga is an ideal way to keep your body healthy and your mind clear.
